Perusing the tea and coffee aisle at the supermarket, I recently began to notice a new brand of tea called Yogi Tea. My supermarket carries Yogi Tea in at least six different flavors, each one promising a different health or wellness benefit. Lured in by these promising claims, I bought a box of Yogi's Throat Comfort tea. As a teacher, I use my voice all day long, and it takes its toll on my poor throat. I hoped that the Throat Comfort Tea would give me some relief.
The Throat Comfort Yogi Tea was indeed very tasty and, I must admit, quite soothing to drink. It had a distinct licorice flavor which I wasn't expecting. Intrigued by my first Yogi Tea experience, I decided to do a little research.
It turns out that the Yogi Tea company is the real deal. They produce a line of herbal teas and green teas, based on the South Asian alternative medicine called Ayurveda. All of the Yogi teas are specifically designed to enhance the health of body and mind.
The Yogi Tea line began as three different recipes back in the 1980's. But today they produce several wonderful teas, all based on the same holistic wellness principles. In addition to Throat Comfort and other cold season remedies, other flavors of Yogi Tea include Calming Tea (to ease tension and anxiety), DeTox, Ginseng Vitality, Relaxed Mind, Stomach Ease... the list goes on and on. They also produce a special line of Yogi Tea just for women, with names like Woman's Energy, Woman's Moon Cycle and Mother To Be. These Woman's teas are specially designed to balance hormones and work with the specific chemistry of a woman's body.
In keeping with their holistic principles of health and wellness, the Yogi Tea company uses all organic ingredients. They use whole ingredients whenever possible and no artifical flavors or chemicals.
I personally am not a devotee of alternative medicine. I remain skeptical about claims that this or that particular herb possesses fantastic healing properties unknown by western science and medicine. I don't believe that drinking an herbal tea produced by some well-meaning Yoga students in Oregon is going to change my life and soothe all my ailments. Nevertheless, I must admit that I do enjoy Yogi Tea.
In truth, Yogi Tea is well blended to produce delightful and unique flavor combinations. It is a pleasure to drink. In combination with a healthful, organic diet and regular but non-strenuous exercise routine, I can't help but admit that Yogi Tea really does promote wellness of body and spirit. Or maybe I just like the taste of their tea.
