Throughout our development as the fun-loving, joyful, smiling animals that we are, with a brain the size of the sun when compared to all the other animals of our earth, springing up from something as foolish as a primate, so some say, yet we've learned not to be too serious about this 'survival of the fittest' thing. We've learned to laugh at ourselves and the world around us, the world that seems sometimes too heavy a burden, and yet one we overcome day after day, victory after victory, rising by our will to power, falling by our vanity, ever struggling with a smile. Because we do rise above ourselves, we are able to laugh at ourselves when we were the fallen one, the fool. Such is the purpose of prank video, to get someone to believe something that isn't true at all, that's been staged to make a fool of the viewer. Once you've gotten over being the fool of a prank video, you can engage in the same laughter as those who were laughing at you when you fell for it, maybe not as loud as them, but with a sense of your own self-mastery, a sense of having overcome your own ego.
Some prank videos can also be quite entertaining. One was made by cutting and splicing two different videos together, each with no relation to the other until the prankster video editor made them one. One video was of the rush of a herd of women bursting through the gates of a department store for the first day of Christmas sales. In it, people were being trampled, and with the screaming voices, you would have thought these people were running for a million dollars instead of a few dollars savings. The prank video would contain several cuts from this frightening tape, but interspersed throughout the second video, one in which a young man, the victim, was video taped at the same store, all the while being encouraged to pretend he was hiding from an ex-girlfriend who did not think herself quiet x-ed. The prank video was a masterpiece of video editing, the sequencing so believable, the prankster actually convinced one viewer that the victim was a rock star who was trying to stay incognito at their local college, but was now uncovered by this video found in the young man's dorm by his room mate. The foolish girl actually asked the befuddled boy for his autograph when he entered the room. The laughs and cheers went on for days.
That's an innocent prank video, but some can be malicious. You know the difference. Remember, there are reputations at stake, feelings, and some souls are more sensitive then others. If your goal is to hurt, don't do it, simple as that. Keep it innocent, clean, and funny and your video wont get you a 1 to 10 in the state pen. Word up!
