Gearing Up for Work with a Leather Messenger Bag and

Gearing Up for Work with a Leather Messenger Bag and More

I recently graduated from college with a degree in management, and was lucky enough to secure a job with a firm that was recruiting at my campus. That's something I'm very grateful for -- especially in this economy, when so many of my fellow classmates have struck out on their attempts to secure a gig. I have a couple weeks off before I start my new job, so I'm going to use the downtime to gear up for the position. This includes buying all the clothes and accessories I'll need as I start life in the corporate world.

First on my list is proper business attire. I practically lived in jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts while in school, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch as far as building a wardrobe goes. This will be my biggest start-up expense for sure, but unfortunately it's an unavoidable one. Thank goodness for credit cards!

Next, I want to get a leather messenger bag. It seems that most young professionals these days carry a leather messenger bag of some sort instead of a traditional, boring briefcase. I personally like the way these look, and think they would make a fantastic accessory to any business ensemble. Just because I'm entering the real world, that doesn't mean I have to sacrifice style or the "cool" factor.

I was actually looking at leather messenger bags online today and was surprised by how many choices are available. For example, there are unisex styles, as well as specific designs for men and for women. Vintage leather messenger bags with that distressed look are also a popular choice these days, so that's something else for me to consider. And do I want to go vertical, or stick with the regular horizontal version? Decisions, decisions....

After getting the right clothes and a nice leather messenger bag for my laptop and documents, I'll have to buy some decent shoes as well. I'll need several pairs of nice dress shoes to go with the business attire I purchase, because I doubt my usual pair of sneakers would impress my boss.

In addition to shopping for suits, leather messenger bags, and shoes, I might head over to an office supply store and pick up a desk blotter, some picture frames, and a few other random accessories for my cubicle. I want to settle in and personalize my space as quickly as possible in order to make the transition to the working world go off without a hitch.

I'm excited about beginning my career, but also a little bit nervous too. I guess that's to be expected, though. At least I should go into my first day dressed for the part and prepared to work. That ought to count for something!
