Using A Pop Up Blocker

There are a variety of tools that you must use when you travel around the Internet to keep your computer safe. It's sad, but it is a reality of the world that we live in. If you are not careful, you can end up with viruses that cripple your computer, or you may have a system that crashes so often you can not use it. Anti-virus software is essential, as is a good firewall. If you do not already have one, you should also see about getting a good pop up blocker installed on your system. These not only save you hassle, they make your online experience a much more positive one.

There are many things that can happen to your computer without a good pop up blocker installed. For one, if you have an older model of computer, pop ups can easily crash your system. There are some web sites you can visit that will throw just one pop up at you, which may not be too bad. However, there are some that will throw them at you every five seconds until your system has to stop working because it can not keep up. These advertisements will come up faster than you can close them, and many of them are not things you want seen on your screen. You can try to avoid these sites, but everyone stumbles upon one once in a while.

Some pop ups are so graphic intensive that just one can slow down your computer or cause it to crash. This may not be a problem if you have a newer computer, but older ones that crash when bombarded may also crash after one graphic-rich pop up. Good pop up blockers can stop these before they appear, saving you from losing what you were working on. They can even save you from losing days of work because you can not get your computer to work right again without repair. That is rare, but it has been known to happen in the absence of a pop up blocker.

You can find a good pop up blocker online for free, or if you do not like how it works, you can always see if you can buy a more sophisticated and manageable blocker. You can usually find them free through things like the Google toolbar, as well as other toolbars by Yahoo and other web sites. Some anti-virus programs now come with good blockers for pop up ads, and you can also find them with firewalls and some new computer models. Some people end up with three or four of them, all for free. One pop up blocker may be better, but a few does not hurt.

There can be a downside to a pop up blocker, however. There are some blockers that will not allow things to pop up in your screen that you do want. There are games that require your pop up blocker to be turned off, which is not always easy, especially if you have more than one running. If you are having problems, get rid of a few of them, or find one that will give you good control over what you want to pop up or that allows you to set different options for web sites you visit often.
