One of the most beautiful things about a smoothie is that it is really hard to mess up. Fruit and vegetable smoothies are among the healthiest things you can consume, and healthy smoothie recipes abound these days.
What I have basically found with fruit smoothies is that you want to combine a sweeter fruit, such as a mango or cantaloupe, with a berry and a banana for the best-tasting smoothie. The best way to do it for me is to get those three in equal quantities, along with some orange juice and ice, and blend them all together. It should make about two servings, and it is packed with vitamins and minerals.
Other healthy smoothie recipes will involve yogurt with fruit, where essentially you substitute the yogurt for the orange juice. This will obviously give you more calcium, and it will be a bit thicker and more filling than the first one.
Strawberries are among the most nutritious foods you can eat and do very well in smoothies, because they blend so easily. Apples are another good fruit to use for healthy smoothie recipes, because they are high in fiber and they're sweet.
One of the complaints that I hear the most often about healthy smoothie recipes is that they are not sweet enough, and some people will actually put sugar into them. I have always felt that smoothies are sweet enough as they are, but if you feel they need to be sweeter, you should try to use honey as a sweetener, because it has more nutritional value than sugar.
With regards to healthy smoothie recipes involving vegetables, tomatoes, radishes, carrots and celery are all good ingredients to use in smoothies. If you like vegetables, this is not a problem and you can combine most kinds of veggies with no problem. If you don't like how they taste in a smoothie, you can always mix in a fruit, such as a mango, to make it a bit sweeter.
Vegetable smoothies can be more difficult to drink than fruit smoothies because of this. A friend of mine who was trying to eat better asked me to make her a vegetable smoothie, then grimaced and shook her head violently as she took the first drink. Needless to say, she did not finish it, and to be honest, I am not sure if she even swallowed her first drink.
If you do like vegetables, however, those are among the most healthy smoothies that you can make and a great way to get your daily recommended intake of vegetables.
Healthy smoothie recipes abound, and can be figured out very quickly if you just think about what like to eat, what you are trying to get in terms of vitamins and nutrients, and then experiment a little bit with the ingredients you buy. You will soon feel a lot better, too.
