My Favorite Family Vacation Destinations are Not Always That Far

My Favorite Family Vacation Destinations are Not Always That Far From Home

We try to take a vacation as a family at least once a year and visit a place that we have never been before. Our family has seen most of the popular family vacation destinations, such as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and Washington, D.C., but some of my favorite places to go and visit have not been that far from home.

My family lives in North Texas, so one of the obvious choices for a vacation is the Alamo. My family has been there on a couple of occasions, and while it is one of the more popular family vacation destinations for people from around the country, it takes on a special meaning for people from Texas.

The great thing about visiting the Alamo is that my kids always enjoy going, partly because we always go to SeaWorld as well, and it is less than 300 miles from our home. That means we can make it in a half of a day's drive and have most of our trip devoted to relaxing and sight-seeing as opposed to driving. There is also something to be said about saving on the cost of flying.

Another of our favorite family vacation destinations is New Orleans, because there is so much culture and entertainment there, and it is difficult to find a place on the planet that has better food. We always make it a point to visit the French Quarter when we go down there, and our children love to ride the Steamer Natchez out on the Mississippi River.

Our family is also very big into music, so that always makes New Orleans a popular place to visit, because you can hear all different kinds of music playing, practically all day long.

There is also a region in central Texas called the Hill Country that, especially over recent years, has become one of the family vacation destinations we most enjoy. Aside from the fact that the scenic beauty of the area is absolutely breathtaking, with the economy the way that it is, it is one of the most affordable vacations we can take.

It is less than 200 miles from our home, and there are all kinds of things to do, from tours to shopping to children's activities, and it does not break the bank. Texas is a big state, and one of the best things about this particular family vacation destination is that it allows them to learn more about a region of the state about which they are not too familiar.

Family vacation destinations to do not have be expensive or far away. There are many places within driving distance of most Americans just to get away, relax and have a great time, and still be less than a day's travel from home.
