Ideas For Calming Crying Babies

When your baby is crying and you can not figure out why, you probably feel completely helpless. Most parents of infants experience this at least a few times, even if they have a relatively calm and happy baby. There are some things you can try to see if you can figure out what they want, and if that does not work, there are things you can do to help calm crying babies to get them to go back to sleep. Uncontrollable crying is hard on the parents, but is not always a sign that something is wrong. Sometimes, babies just cry to let off some steam.

When crying babies are going on and on, there is always a reason. Some of the reasons are more obvious and more simple than you may think. You can think that you just fed your baby so they can not be hungry, but that is not always true. Always go through the basics with crying babies before you decide that something more serious is going on. Try to give them food, check diaper, see if anything is rubbing on their skin from clothing, and try a pacifier if you use one with your baby.

If these things do not help, move on to less obvious things that can cause crying babies to be inconsolable. See if they have hair wrapped around a finger or toe. This hurts and cause a lot of long term damage. Check for rash or other skin irritations that may be bothering them, and see if they have a temperature. If they are wearing socks or shoes, take them off to make sure they are not hurting them. Give crying babies a close examination to make sure the source of their crying is not physical pain.

Sometimes, crying babies are set off by colic. Though the cause of colic is usually reflux, some babies just cry to let off some steam. If you have these episodes a lot, you may want to have a doctor check for reflux or other physical conditions that may be causing them pain or discomfort. It may be something simple. Remember that babies can not talk, so they cry to tell you something. It may seem to you that they are in extreme pain when they are simply trying to tell you that something is not right.

If nothing seems to be wrong, and you have ruled out anything hurting them, sometimes you just have to let crying babies cry until they are done. That does not mean leaving them alone in a room, but sometimes they just have to let off some steam. You can try to put them in the car for a ride, or take them for a walk in their stroller. Some crying babies calm down if you sing softly to them, and some simply need to be distracted. As your baby grows, you will learn more about their cries and what to do to help them calm down. These crying jags will slowly go away as your baby gets older and as you better learn to to understand their unique cries.
