Do You Want To Be an Egg Donor?

There are some women who sadly can not have children because they either have bad eggs or some other fertility issues that makes it impossible for them to use their own eggs, healthy or not. These women can have a baby, but they often have to do it with eggs from another women. These eggs are fertilized by the man's sperm and the egg is then implanted in the mom to be. Though these eggs are not her own, the baby will grow inside of her and she will feel like it is. If you want to make some money and help someone have a baby of which they have dreamed for a very long time, you may want to become an egg donor.

There are things that you have to know about being an egg donor before you sign up. For one, it should not cost you any money. The family or agency representing that family that needs the egg are going to pay for your expenses. You are going to see a doctor quite a bit. First, you must be healthy, so that must be out of the way with an exam. You also have to have pretty regular menstrual cycle. You will probably also be given fertility drugs in the form of injections so that you make more eggs that the typical one or two that your body makes each cycle.

Secondly, you have to be of a pretty average weight to be an egg donor. For one, those that are over or under weight may not ovulate regularly, which is a problem. Those seeking donor eggs do not want a child that may be genetically prone to being overweight either. Some extra weight may not be an issues, but being classified as obese may put you out of the running. If you really want to be an egg donor if you are out of shape, hit the gym and eat right until you are down to a healthy weight. An agency that handles egg donation may be able to give you guidelines if you call and ask.

You have to know something about your family history if you want to be an egg donor. If you have genetic diseases that may show up in your egg, you may not be a good choice. Families want healthy babies, of course. Learn about genetic disease through the members of your family if you can before you put a call in to be an egg donor. The agency you call will want to know more about your family health history to see if you are a good candidate or not. Be honest about things and be as thorough as you can about potential issues with the health of your family.

There are emotional aspects of being an egg donor that you must also consider before you begin. It is much like sperm donation in that you must realize you will have a genetic child out there somewhere that you will never meet and never get to know. This can be hard for some women. Those that do go ahead with egg donation think that they can handle this because they feel strongly about helping others have babies that they would otherwise not be able to have. Most that can afford to pay for an egg donor also have the money to give a baby a good life, which is a great reassurance to many. Think these things over and also see a therapist before you make a choice.
