Famous African Americans



Many famous African Americans have created a name for themselves and made a mark in the world. They have beat the odds to venture into places where others have shied off and they have gone ahead to break the barriers into stardom. One of these famous African Americans is the 44th United States president Barrack Hussein Obama. President Obama is an African American born of a Kenyan father and a Kansas-born mother. In the 2007 America election, Obama beat his opponent to become the first African American to hold the highest office in the world.

Oprah Winfrey is another of the famous African Americans who have won a name across the world for ranking among the worlds most influential people. Her talk show, the Oprah Winfrey Show has won many awards and become the highest rated program. She is also a renowned actress, a philanthropist and producer who has been ranked as the 20th centurys richest African American. She was once rated as the worlds only black billionaire and as Americas greatest black philanthropist.

Martin Luther King (Jnr) is another famous African American who made a debut in the American history as a renowned social activist. He led the battle of ensuring that civil rights were granted to the African American people who were grossly oppressed out of racism. This bore fruit and Africa Americans owe the rights and freedoms they have today to the courageous battle he put up. He was assassinated in 1968 but his legacy still lives on.

Reverend Jesse Jackson (Sr.) is another of the famous African Americans who is well known for his fight for civil rights in America. He was also a Baptist minister and was once voted as the most important black leader. He was a great leader who fought strongly for the African Americans and became famous with his fearless politics. He was a prominent civil rights spokesman and was very influential in international political issues.

Famous African Americans also includes Tyra Banks, who has made a mark in the worlds history. She is a model, a television personality and an actress. She was the third African American woman to get a contract with Cover Girl at a tender age of twenty. She became the first black model to grace the covers of the Sports Illustrated and GQ magazines. She is a major name in the Victoria Secret and is the executive producer of the show Americas Next Top Model. She also runs a talk show known as the Tyra Show which targets the young women.

Another famous African American is model and actress Halle Maria Berry who overcame racialism to become Miss Teen America and Miss Teen Ohio. She became first runners up in the Miss USA beauty pageant, which was held in 1985. She has worked as a catalogue model and as an actress in thrillers like the Executive Decision and The Rich Mans Wife. She has got nominations as Best Actress and became the first African American actress to win an Oscar.
