The Various Types of Jobs Available at Ad Agencies

There are many different types of jobs available at most local or national ad agencies. Depending on the size of the agency you can expect to see jobs like Receptionist, Account Executive, Account Administrator, Administrative Clerks, Human Resource Specialists, Human Resource Administrator, Copywriter, Art Director, Graphic Designer, Typographer, Creative Director, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, President, Accountant, Chief Financial Officer, and a few others.

Discounting the very top position of CEO, the best way for a young person straight out of college to get a position is to prepare their resume or portfolio and knock on the door. Many of these ad agencies do not advertise for jobs so it is best if you either call ahead to find out what job openings there are or look in their websites to see if there are any jobs posted. Most agencies these days have extensive websites with a job posting board of some kind or other. Others may want you to apply online by filling out an application there.

Another way to get into an entry-level position at ad agencies is to go to a recruiter or job placement agency. Usually they will charge you a small commission if you are hired but sometimes they just charge the company you are hired by. Some of these agencies only hire for temp work but that is also a good way to get a foot in the door. Remember, these ad agencies are where everyone wants to work so they have no problem getting people to apply. You need to try many different avenues in order to land a job sometimes. Be tenacious and one great way is to land a temp job.

Temps can get noticed by doing great work and not acting like a temp. Go the extra mile, work longer hours; these are the things that will get you noticed. If you are a Graphic Designer, you can go to one of the placement agencies that cater to creative talent. You can find these by doing an online search for creative job placement agencies.

Getting regular jobs at ad agencies can be the most exciting and rewarding thing you have ever done. These jobs can lead to a very satisfying and lucrative career in advertising or graphic design. If you are good at finance or accounting, ad agencies offer several unique positions for your talents. Since they are always billing clients for hours worked and for commercials, signage, collateral and other products that they create, the ad agencies are always on the lookout for accounting types who can serve in that capacity.

Be consistent in your job search and eventually you will be rewarded with a great job.
